Conquistadors vs the Giant King of Alabama: Uncensored
Hernando de Soto’s expedition was one of the most violent and disastrous Spanish Conquistador colonization efforts in North American history. In the early 1540s, De Soto and hundreds of Spanish soldiers marched through what is now the southeastern United States in search of gold, enslaving Native peoples, burning towns, and destabilizing entire regions. Along the way, they became the first Europeans to document the Mississippi River. They eventually fought Tuscaloosa at Mabila in Alabama.
Thousands of Natives were killed and half the Spanish Expedition would die.
